An apocalyptic comedy set in the heart of Birmingham, Average Joe takes readers on a humourous survival horror ride filled with geekery, angered Saxon deities and an 80’s classic rock soundtrack.
Joe Heston hasn’t lived his life, he’s coasted it. All that will change when the job he has been waiting for lands in his lap, but all is not what it seems. When Woden, an ancient Saxon deity, is awoken, the world as we know comes to an end. At the end of the world, Joe Heston must truly start living.
Average Joe is an original comic series from Rob Jones, Brad Holman and Leon McKenzie. It’s an apocalyptic comedy set in the heart of the West Midlands, following the exploits Joe and a motley group of survivors as they learn to live in this brave new world and battling the horrors which now lurk within it. Created in the spirit of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead meets Richard Matheson’s I am Legend, Average Joe aims to give readers a laugh, a scare and a poorly guided history lesson. According to writer/co-creator Rob Jones, “it’s a story about knowing who you really are. Yes it’s meant to be funny and gory, but also it’s a story of reflection and how all too often we waste our lives and don’t know what we miss until it’s gone.”
